Notesnap helps tutors turn their lesson notes into summaries for parents and quizzes for students. That means handling notes and student details, so here is exactly what we collect, what we do with it, and what we never do.
The short version
- Notesnap only reads your notes. It can't edit, move or delete anything in OneNote, Google Drive or Notion.
- It only opens a page when you pick it. It doesn't scan or copy your whole notebook.
- Your notes are used to write that lesson's summary and quiz, and nothing else.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or use your notes to train AI models.
- You can ask us to delete your account and everything in it at any time: hello@notesnap.net.
Who we are
Notesnap runs the website notesnap.net. If you have a question about your data, or want a copy of it corrected or deleted, email hello@notesnap.net.
What we collect
Your account
Your email address and how you sign in (email and password, Google or Microsoft). Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider, Google Firebase. We never see or store them.
Your students
The details you add for each student: their name, email, year level, and their parents' names and email addresses. We use these only to address and send the summaries and quizzes you choose to send.
Lesson notes
When you connect OneNote, Google Drive or Notion, Notesnap gets read-only access. It reads a page only when you open it in Notesnap. When you generate a summary or quiz, that page's text, handwriting and images, along with any side notes you type, are sent to our AI provider to write it.
What we keep: the summary and quiz that were written, and small images of the handwritten working shown in the summary. To make pages open quickly, recently opened notes are also cached in your own browser; they are cleared when you sign out.
The access you grant to OneNote, Google Drive or Notion is stored in an encrypted cookie in your browser, not in our database, and is removed when you sign out. You can also withdraw it at any time from your Microsoft, Google or Notion account settings.
Quiz results
When a student takes a quiz, we save their answers and score so their tutor can follow their progress. Students don't need an account; anyone with a quiz link can open it, so links should only be shared with the student.
How the site is used
- In the app: sign-ins, summaries generated, emails sent, and errors, with the browser and page they happened on, so we can fix problems.
- On the home page:an anonymous visitor ID kept in your browser, your approximate location (city, region and country, worked out from your connection; we don't keep your IP address), your device and browser type, how far you scrolled, and which link brought you there.
We use this to understand which parts of Notesnap work and which don't. There are no advertising trackers.
Who your data is shared with
Only the services Notesnap needs to run, each for its part of the job:
| Service | What it does for Notesnap |
|---|---|
| Google Firebase | Sign-in, and the database holding accounts, students, summaries and quizzes |
| Vercel | Hosts the website and runs it |
| Anthropic (Claude) | The AI that writes summaries and quizzes from the notes you choose |
| Resend | Delivers the emails you send to parents and students |
| Microsoft, Google, Notion | Where your notes are read from, and Google or Microsoft sign-in if you use it |
Notesnap uses Anthropic through its commercial API. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, what Notesnap sends isn't used to train its models. We never use your notes or students' details to train AI either.
These services may process data outside Australia, including in the United States. We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Data from Google and Microsoft accounts
If you sign in with Google or Microsoft, Notesnap receives your name and email address from them to create and identify your account. If you connect Google Drive or OneNote, Notesnap can read your files or notebooks, and opens one only when you select it in Notesnap.
We use this data only to provide Notesnap's features: signing you in, showing your notes, and writing the summaries and quizzes you ask for. We don't use it for advertising, we don't sell it, and nobody at Notesnap reads it unless you ask us to (for example, to help with a problem), it's needed for security, or the law requires it. We don't use it to develop, improve or train AI or machine learning models.
Notesnap's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Students and children
Many students are under 18. Notesnap is used by tutors, not directly by children: a tutor adds a student and sends their summaries and quizzes. Tutors should only add a student's or parent's details when they have permission to use them for lessons. A parent who wants their child's details removed can ask the tutor, or email us at hello@notesnap.net.
How long we keep it
We keep your account, students, summaries and quizzes while your account is open, so you can look back at past lessons. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it along with your students, summaries, quizzes and quiz results.
Keeping it safe
Everything is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Each tutor can only see their own students and lessons, and the access Notesnap asks for to your notes is read-only.
Your choices and rights
- See, correct or delete your students' details yourself in the Students tab.
- Disconnect OneNote, Google Drive or Notion by signing out, or from that service's own account settings.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or for your account and everything in it to be deleted, by emailing hello@notesnap.net.
- If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, contact us first. In Australia you can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Cookies and browser storage
Notesnap uses cookies and your browser's storage to keep you signed in, remember your connected notes services, open recent pages quickly, and count anonymous home page visits. It doesn't use advertising cookies.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how your notes or students' details are used, we'll tell you in the app or by email first.
